Presidents Report May 2024

The season has started well for the Junior crocs on & off the field, 3 rounds in and we have some good results in all age groups so far. Player numbers are looking good in the junior grades , our youth teams are doing well but could all do with a couple more players for each age group , if you know anyone thinking about playing , get them along to training to see how the club operates and get feel for the game.

It’s great to see so many kids wanting to play up a grade after there own game to help out with numbers, this helps all teams and puts the club in a good spot going forward with kids moving up a level each year or two. The club currently has 98 players registered over 6 teams. We are a little up on last year and hopefully some more kids will sign up in the next few weeks. This year we have a lot of players playing there 100th game for the club and is a great achievement at junior level. Keep an eye out for those banners popping u at home games for the players to run through. The club provides the materials for the parents to make the banner for there kids milestone game.

As a club we want to be professional on and off the field and make sure we all remember we are here for the kids , to see them enjoy there football, and the love of the game. The committee has been working harder than ever to get the season up and running , the canteen for round 2 home game was our biggest day for a few years and thanks to all the volunteers who are helping out, our team managers are dong a fantastic job and make sure we all put our hand up to help out were we can. Thursday meals are back at the club and a great success feeding those hungry mouths after training, it also makes an easy dinner options for parents every Thursday. Our Saturday Central raffles are selling out fast and make sure you call past and support these if your in town.

Anzac Day was well represented by the club, taking part in the parade and having two of our junior players Tyler Ronald’s & Frankie Hughes laying a wreath during the service , our Anzac raffle was well supported and raised over $4500 for the Mossman RSL & Junor footy club. Thank you to all our sponsors of the raffle its much appreciated.

The club as a whole has some great events coming up over the next few months, we have our family day on the Saturday 15th June, our under 13’s & 17’s will be playing Saturday morning before the reserves, seniors & senior women games. Our under 15 B & under 17G will play Friday night under lights at home , canteen & club bar will be open. These events are due to the road being closed on the Sunday 16th June for triathlon. We are working on the under 9’s & 11’s game with AFL cairns & tigers.

Round 4 is this weekend at home against Cairns Saints on Mother’s Day , it’s also the pink in the tropics game on the Saturday against the Saints. Let’s get along to support both days this weekend.

Enjoy our great game of AFL.

President's Report - End of Season 2023

What a season 2023 has been for the Port Douglas Football Club. On and off the field, we have achieved so much. The season went very quickly and was a great success. I would like to say a big thank you to all the Committee Members of 2023 who have helped get this club up and running for season. A lot of effort goes in every day/week to get our teams on the ground- the endless fundraising from our Anzac Raffle, Central Hotel Raffle every Saturday morning, trivia nights, Tin Shed Raffle nights- all these contribute to having a successful & financially healthy Junior AFL club.

Another big thank you must go to our 2023-2024 Major Sponsors, who came on board and have contributed greatly to the Port Douglas Junior Football Club. Our new merchandise range of polos, casual shorts, caps and hoodies have been a great success, proving very popular indeed. It's great to see so many people wearing our club gear around the Douglas Shire and representing us in the surrounds.

I'd also like to thank all of our generous Game Day sponsors & Central Raffle sponsors for the year. Without these wonderful continued sponsors, we wouldn't be where we are today.

It was another wonderful Presentation Night this year and I hope everyone enjoyed the evening. Congratulations to all of the award winners for the season and well done to the Under 15s Boys for making a Preliminary Final- Let's go one better for 2024.

A really big thank you to all the girls who played at all age levels this season for the club. We hope to see more girls playing the game next year. Also, big thank you to the Under 17s Girls for a great first season. We are very proud of you all and for being the first all-girl team for the club.

Our committee is now taking a well-earned two-month break before we are back for an end-of-season meeting in November. Any urgent questions are to be emailed to the club via the website and we will get back to you. The junior club facilities will be closed, so any kids wanting to have a kick in the off season at the ground are more than welcome- you will just need to bring your own football with you.

Don't forget- we have a great range of merchandise available on our website for purchase at any time of the year. They make great Christmas presents and can be mailed anywhere in Australia. Our website is the only place you can order club merchandise between now and February 2024. Check out at https://portdouglasjuniorafl.com/

Thanks again to you all for an awesome 2023 Season and we look forward to a bigger and better 2024.

Regards,

Darren Saxon

Presidents Report July 2023

With only 2 weeks of footy left before Finals, the season has certainly gone quick. The club has had a exciting year on and off the field so far with more excitement to come with finals just around the corner.

The general behaviour of our players on and off the field has been a credit to them and they way they have handled themselves during the year has been fantastic, As a club we have put up with a lot this year on the field , we have been challenged at all age levels and responded in the utmost respect for the game and to ourselves. It’s been a privilege to watch the way we have handled many situations presented to us and the committee would like to thank the players for there efforts so far.

Off the field we have dealt with challenges as a club, and will continue to be challenged, we have built a strong resilient club and will continue to be a proud football club who looks after and protects there players, volunteers and supporters. Thanks to all involved in running this club, our hard working committee, our volunteers that help out each week, some even when there kids aren’t playing that week. We are getting better at this but always room for more volunteers during the season.

Our under 15’s will be playing finals this year the first time in a while and they are finishing the season strong, they continue to play disciplined footy and they keep winning. Let get along to support them for the last weeks of the season and into the finals.

A big thank you to the coaches at all age levels as we see the improvement in the kids footy, the non competitive age groups are learning each week and you can see the smile on there faces on the field. The competitive age groups are finishing the season strong , under 13’s have had some tough games lately but haven’t given up and are finishing the game strong. Under 15’s are in the perfect position with there final position on the ladder in there hands. Finish the season strong and bring on finals. The under 17 girls have had a tough few weeks but have held there head high and played the game in the spirit it should be , putting up with extra challenges outside of the game , turning up each week with the same attitude as there first game, this week we are chasing our 4th win for the season and our first win at home, please get behind them this Sunday at 1415pm.

With season end approaching this leads us into our presentation night , this will be held on the Friday 8th Sept at the clubrooms. See our website for all the details. It was a great event last year and looking forward to another huge and successful night again celebrating our players and there achievements in season 2023.

We have had a good response from our Thursday night meals and these will finish with next Thursdays night last training session for the season for all age groups. The under 15’s will continue to train for the finals. Thank you to all that supported our Thursday meals and hopefully we made your Thursday night dinner easy.

Our last central hotel raffle will be held on Saturday 19th August 11am to 1pm, please come past and buy a ticket to support the club for our last raffle of the year and join the committee for a soft drink or two.

Please keep up to date with what’s happening at the footy club on our facebook page or our website. Next Thursday for our last training session we will have all the merchandise available for purchase on the day. After that you will need to purchase merchandise on the website only.

Girls doing it for themselves

Girls doing it for themselves

The girls were doing it for themselves in Port Douglas as the inaugural Junior Crocs U17s AFL girls’ team had their first hit out at the Croc sporting complex.

It’s the first time in the history of the club that they have formed an all-girls team. The Junior Crocs President and Coach Darren Saxon was on hand to brush the cobwebs off some of the more experienced in the squad and encourage the 'newbies' to give it their best shot in a first season that's full of possibilities.

PDJFC Presidents Report - 2022 Round 4

16 May 2022

What a hectic but magnificent start to the year.

Now that things are in full flow things calm down a bit. I want to start with saying well done to our committee who have been amazing in their work setting up 2022. We have a lot to do, and we do it well. Our big-ticket item in the off season was creating a website that could be a one stop shop for all things Junior Crocs. It includes the fixtures for all grades and a shop for ordering merchandise on line.

The Coaches have all been outstanding and the best part is they are about the kids. I couldn’t be happier with the way our volunteering has gone in the pre-season and through the 1st three rounds. From Team Managers, to raffle sellers, canteen helpers, goal umpires, water runners, jumper washers etc. I have never seen in my time at the club more people willing to lend a hand. Thank you!

Team Nominations and Calendar of Events

2 Jul 2020

Last night we attended a league meeting and agreed upon some key dates for season 2020 (Take 2)

Team nominations were also compiled with the clubs only able to go on the numbers that had turned up to training over the past 3 weeks. With this being the case and numbers dropping significantly (Target 150 by Easter down to 80 who returned to training) it was decided to merge the U9 & 10’s (Now U10) and U11 & U12’s (Now U12). Unfortunately numbers in U14 & U15YG were too low to nominate a team and it has been agreed that both these teams are merging with the Pyramid Power who are in a similar situation.

With this in place there has also been some tweaks to how the coaching situation will look.

As with all things in 2020 things may change at the drop of a hat but at this moment in time this is the plan.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
